Reducing Energy Costs in Municipal Water Supply Operations
"Learning-While-Doing" Energy M&T on the Brazilian fronlines

Produced by the World Bank, this CD-ROM explains utilities' use of Energy Monitoring and Target Setting (M&T) to curb waste and energy costs in supplying water to municipalities in developing countries. It also describes World Bank-sponsored "action research" in two states in Brazil by public-private partnerships employing Energy M&T to reduce electricity consumption. The two partnerships are on track to achieve impressive results. One expects to save over 50 percent of its current energy bill and to pay off its energy-saving capital investment three to four years after that. The CD-ROM documents the results in Brazil, notes critical factors in reducing energy costs in municipal water supply operations, describes Energy M&T implementation plans, and lists no-cost and low-cost measures to save energy.
